WhatsApp working on Picture-in-Picture mode for Android

One of the most popular instant messaging app – WhatsApp is working on picture-in-picture video mode for Android. In 2018, WhatsApp has been introducing many new features lately with high frequency. Picture-in-picture mode will allow users to continue the video call on a minimized screen while browsing through the rest of their conversation.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has recently submitted a new update through the “Google Play Beta Program”, bringing the version up to 2.18.234. WABetaInfo reported that –

“WhatsApp is working very hard for past many months in order to add this feature, adding new improvements in the next updates. After implementing the feature on WhatsApp for iOS, we can finally affirm it will be possible, in the next updates, to view YouTube and Instagram videos in WhatsApp, using the Picture-in-Picture mode.”

Though this feature is not currently available on Android due to some development reasons. It needs to receive several improvements before being available for all WhatsApp for Android users. WhatsApp has been working on this feature for the last few months. This feature will be ready for Android soon.

When this feature is available on Android, you will be able to see a White-colored play icon. This icon will be on any YouTube or Instagram video link shared on WhatsApp. You will have to tap on the icon and the video will pop-up in a small box inside the app. You can expand the box or place it anywhere within the app itself.

Though WhatsApp didn’t announce any timeline as to when the new feature will be available for the users. Looks like Android users still have to wait for picture-in-picture mode. We will update you as soon as the feature rolls out.
