WhatsApp mute shortcut: Now mute notifications without opening app

WhatsApp for Android beta has been updated recently with a new mute button in notifications panel. As a report in WABetaInfo, the mute function is live for WhatsApp Android Beta form 2.18.216. The site previously announced that Mute shortcut was available for Android beta, but it was under development and disabled. Now the feature has been enabled for beta testers. Whatsapp beta testers often get options which might be being examined which may or may not make it to the public rollout.

In this new mute shortcut feature, WhatsApp will get the “Mute” button next to the “Reply” button. The mute button will appear once users receive more than 51 messages from one contact. The button will let you mute chat directly from the notification center without opening the app. The mute shortcut will not appear if the user has received less than 51 messages.

Though “Mark as Read” feature is still under development and needs improvements before it gets enabled for everyone. Apart from the mute button, WhatsApp is bringing a sticker preview very soon. WhatsApp sticker feature was announced at the Facebook F8 conference. This feature is available for WhatsApp Android beta version 2.18.218.
