WhatsApp is one of the largest instant messaging app owned by social media giant Facebook. WhatsApp is now rolling out the latest beta version 2.18.246. for all Android users. This new version comes with a new and revamped layout for the Report feature that is available for both individual and group chats.
As a part of the new design and revamp, a new alert box will appear that will prompt the user to block the individual contact or exist a particular group. This is extra feature apart from deleting messages in the conversation.
With this new feature, you will be able to retain the chat history for reported groups and chats. It was not possible previously. The Government of India has started looking at ways to block WhatsApp in a situation that may present harm to the national or local security.
The development was first reported by WABetaInfo. To get access to new report feature, go into the group or individual chat that you wish to report. For example, if you want to report individual then click on the three dots menu and select view contact. Now scroll down and click on the report.
In case of groups on WhatsApp, click on the three-dotted menu on the top right. After that click on view group info and select report. If the individual sender is not in your contacts then WhatsApp will show only the block option.
You can check out this feature for yourself by enrolling in the WhatsApp beta program on Google Play or side-loading the APK. APK is available from the APK Mirror.
This move appears to be an attempt by WhatsApp to provide flexible options to users to choose between the option of deleting and retaining chats. We should consider the fact that this is not part of a stable build. We could expect the feature to get few modifications before it rolls out widely.
Lately, WhatsApp has been rolling out many new features. WhatsApp was spotted testing picture-in-picture video mode. This feature will work for Instagram and YouTube.
