Momo is a social media account on WhatsApp, Facebook, and YouTube. The creepy account is connected to three numbers in Japan, Mexico, and Columbia. The new killer game Momo challenge has now entered in India. If the user refuses to follow the game’s order, Momo threatens them with violent images.
Cybercrime experts are saying that this Momo challenge is a hoax. The Momo relies on WhatsApp messages. The game convinces the potential players to use their mobile phone to contact one of the several “Momo account” phone numbers.
The challenge urges people to chat with strangers via an unknown number on WhatsApp. The Momo challenge asks to perform a series of extreme, dangerous and violent tasks. Those tasks may end up in suicides.
The Momo suicide challenge took lives of two in India. According to a report, two persons Manish Sarki (18) and Aditi Goyal (26) took their lives at Kurseong in Darjeeling district. Police suspect that both of them were into the online killer game. The game led them to take the ultimate step. Not good news.
The official said, “It is a growing menace and we are getting reports of an increasing number of people, mostly youths. They are getting an invitation on their WhatsApp to play the game.”
The game is similar to Blue Whale phenomenon. Spain government, the Indian government, and other countries are spreading awareness of not to play this Momo challenge via Twitter.
