A startup named FiftyThree launched a drawing app designed exclusively for iPad. The app name is “Paper”. Apple crowned this app as “The iPad App of the year”. FiftyThree Company expanded to include an iPhone app. They started offering an optional subscription called Paper Pro and Paste, a collaboration.

We Transfer, a cloud-based file transfer company acquired the app. WeTransfer has 42 million monthly users who send files via the service. The company saw an opportunity to expand its creative tool suite with the acquisition of FiftyThree. They announced that the deal includes FifityThree’s entire patent portfolio, assets, and the executive team. FiftyThree debuted a pencil stylus.
The app has 25 million users. The company mentioned that the apps will live on with increased investment and support. FiftyThree’s founders Georg Petschnning and Andrew Allen will work on to develop WeTransfer’s suite of creative tools.

The co-founder of FiftyThree Georg Petschnning mentioned that –
“At some point, there comes a question of how many subscription services consumers and customers will have. We think there should be a very clear one for creative and everyday creatives. That’s what we are building with WeTransfer.
FiftyThree has 14 employees. It employed 70 people in 2015. Two of them will join WeTransfer. WeTransfer employs 104 people. They will maintain the Paper and Paste brands and products. FiftyThree raised $45 million, including a $30 million round in 2015 led by New Enterprise Associates. Other backers include Andreessen Horowitz, Highline Ventures, Thrive Capital, SV Angels and Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.
