Twitter launches Twitter Lite to help you save data

Twitter recently announced that it Twitter Lite app is expanding to 21 more countries. Twitter launched Twitter Lite in India. The app can be downloaded from Google Play Store. Twitter Lite has an install size of 3MB.

In 2015, Facebook launched Facebook Lite. Then the trend got started for light versions of popular apps. You will be already aware of YouTube GoMessenger Lite, and Skype Lite. Now Twitter has joined the party with Twitter Lite.

Mahima Kaul, Head of Public Policy, Twitter India said in the statement that –

“Twitter is committed to adding value to the expression of our users, allowing them to share their experiences and views in a more meaningful and engaging manner.”

Twitter also explained in the blog post that –

“A new mobile web experience which minimizes data usage, loads quickly on slower connections, is resilient on unreliable mobile networks, and takes up less than 1MB on your device.”

Twitter has optimized it for speed, with up to 30% faster launch times. Twitter Lite offers a variety of features. For example, Twitter Lite users can turn on a Data saver mode that allows them to control which images or video load when browsing the network. Once you enable it, you can load the content by tapping “Load Image” or “Load Video”.

Twitter Lite also includes features like bookmarks, a darker “Night mode” theme. It also offers threads and push notifications. Twitter Lite is basically a progressive web app. You can access it through any browser on any device. If you are using Google Chrome on an Android device then you can access additional features like push notifications. The app is useful.

Twitter is not growing quickly outside the U.S. except Twitter Lite. The company claimed that Twitter Lite led to more than 50% increase in tweets.
