Last year Amazon upgraded the high-end Oasis model. Now, Amazon is updating the paperwhite again with new features including waterproofing and support for Audible audio books in a lighter and thinner package.
All-new Kindle Paperwhite is with a lighter design and water-proofing for Rs. 12,999. Jayshree Gururaj, Director-Amazon Devices said –
“We are constantly improving the design to help customers stay immersed in the story. Today, we are excited to bring even more premium features – like a thinner and lighter flush-front design, additional storage, waterproofing – to our most popular Kindle.”
The screen is flush with the front in a seamless sheet of glass. There are LEDs for the illuminated display and storage has been doubled on the base model to 8GB, with another model offering 32GB of storage.
The new Kindle is water-resistant. It can be dropped into a pool or up to 6 feet of water for 60 minutes without getting damaged. Amazon is adding new presets to its fonts. The model is getting Bluetooth. Now users will be able to listen to audio books through audible using the device.
There are no physical page turn buttons or even the under glass capacitive touch pads like the Voyage used to have. The device doesn’t charge via USB-C. The illuminated display doesn’t offer an adaptive light sensor. It is still a 6-inch, 300ppi display. Paperwhite display was already excellent. So it is hard to complain.
Amazon will sell two versions of the Paperwhite. An 8GB model priced at Rs. 12,999. The 32GB model is available for Rs. 17,999. The people who will purchase the device will get 6 free months of Kindle Unlimited. It will give readers access for millions of books in the Amazon’s Kindle Store.
The Kindle is available for preorder and launches on 7th November.
