Skype gets read receipts for chats

Skype is becoming much more like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Read receipt feature is a very common feature in nowadays messaging apps. Skype has finally added the read receipts feature to make your chats feel acknowledged.  If you are a member of the Skype Insider Program, you can preview this read receipt feature in build 8.26.76 (the latest version) for iOS, Android, Windows, and MacOS.

Microsoft team stated –

“Read receipts lets you see who’s seen your messages at a glance. When someone reads your message, their avatar appears beneath it in Skype chats enabling you to see how far someone has read in the conversation without tapping on every message.”

This feature is available in 1:1 conversations and group chats with 20 or fewer people. Currently, read receipt feature is only available for Skype Insiders. If you are not into read receipts feature then you can simply turn off the feature from your privacy settings. But remember, if you have disabled the read receipt feature then you also will not be able to see other’s read receipts.

Microsoft keeps on improving the elements of Skype to please the users. Microsoft also has updated the feature named “Private Conversations” for end-to-end encrypted messaging. If you are a licensed user of Skype then you will be able to access a whole new range of features recently provided by Skype such as – bright colors, GIFs, emojis, photo effects etc.

If you are not part of Skype Insider Program then we suggest you to stick with WhatsApp, Messenger or any other messaging app. As Skype took a longer period of time to catch up with other chat apps. Though the Skype update is applicable across all platforms that Skype is available on, which includes iOS, Android, Windows, Linux, and Mac.
