Recently Google has been rolling out many features so far over the past few weeks. Now Google has rolled out a new feature for people who use Google Maps to get directions or conveniently share their location with friends and family. In this new feature, now when you let a friend know where you are through the Google Maps app, another new icon is added with your location information that is battery level.
This feature shows an accurate battery level – as it’s exactly the battery percentage on your friend’s phone when their location was last updated. This happens automatically and there is no way that it can be turned off while sharing your location. Therefore, you might want to think twice before you tell someone you didn’t answer their call because your battery was dead. They might know the truth.
From now on, when you share your location with someone in the Google Maps, it will show up on your friend’s map. They will be able to use that information to get directions to exactly where you’re located. With this new update of battery life, it will become easy to tell why someone hasn’t called to tell you they are lost or finally made it to their destination because you will be able to keep a watchful eye on how much battery life they have left. This feature is a useful addition to monitor your friends and ensure they are safe.
This new feature was published for the first time in February when Android Police performed a disassembly of the beta version of Google Maps v9.71. You can check the new feature in the iOS and Android versions of the application today. Though it is a small update, this feature could come in handy in some situations.
