Earlier this year in F8 conference, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a new dating feature for the Facebook. The feature will be based on inside Facebook’s main app. Its many other utilities will be buried beyond the home screen. Facebook “Dating” will be a serious threat to popular dating platforms like Tinder, Bumble, OkCupid etc. With Facebook dating feature, Facebook will become more interesting.
According to a report, Facebook has started testing the dating feature internally. The feature is pretty simple. Once you opt-in to activating Facebook Dating, only other people who have also turned it on will be able to see you, and it won’t be shared to News Feed. Moreover, you can choose if friends of friends can see you or not. Dating profile allows non-binary and transgender and orientation options. You will be able to unlock groups or events you’re a part of for dating. You also will be able to browse potential matches. It will be based on the immense amount of Facebook has on each of its users.
Facebook will have to be very careful about how it plans to roll out and maintain dating across its platform. It is not blitzing into the market with a big flashy app. Instead, it is hoping that the feature could create the meaningful relationships that make people appreciate Facebook and stick with it over the years.
As of now, the feature will be limited to the United States of America and will need users to be 18+. If and when the feature rolls out to other countries, Facebook says users will have to adhere to the age limit for what is considered as an adult in the native country.
As a part of the safety feature, Facebook will only allow users to send text messages via “The dating inbox”. It also means that this inbox will not support links, videos, and GIFs. Also, the inbox on dating will be private text-only. It will not be connected to Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp.
Facebook is currently testing this feature internally. There is no timeline announced by Facebook for when this feature will roll out. What do you think about Facebook dating feature? Let us know in the comment box below.
