The main complaint about Amazon Prime Video is – the user interface. Therefore, Amazon’s new head of Amazon Studio Jennifer Salke recently announced that Amazon Prime Video’ user is about to get a major upgrade. The Amazon Prime Video has not seen a big update in relation to UI for a very long time. Where in Netflix has brought many new features to the app before few months.
As per the report in The Wrap, throughout Amazon’s presentation at the Television Critics Organization press tour – Salke was asked whether the company was working on making improvements to the Amazon Video user interface. At that time Salke hinted that she has not only seen the prototype with a new interface, but she already has one in her office. She also said that she has been using a smartphone with a much more intuitive user interface that she keeps in her office.
Jennifer also announced an upcoming high-profile series such as “Lord of the Rings”, Julia Roberts thriller “Homecoming”, “The Expatriates”, “Them” and many more.
Hopefully, this new interface will resolve some of the shortcomings such as – Amazon doesn’t offer user profiles where household members could have their own watch list and set of recommendation. Also, the old interface is more focused on pushing prime content rather than helping you discover new things you will actually like. For example, if you have a large catalog of movies and TV shows then you will find it difficult to find the content that you may have purchased years ago. We wish that the above shortcomings will be resolved in the new interface. As some of the features are on already Amazon’ rival streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube TV.
Salke’s words imply that Amazon is testing a smartphone of its own, not just a new Amazon Prime Video UI. It feels like Salke made a mistake as Amazon spokeswoman later said that Salke was supposed to say “prototype user interface” on existing smartphone, instead of a “prototype smartphone”.
Whatever the mistake is – one thing is for sure that people will love the interface as it will have less clutter and will be more focused on shows and movies. Although Amazon has not announced any timeline that when it will roll out the new user interface. What would you like to see in Amazon Prime Video upgrade? Let us know in the comment box.
