We have heard many myths and misconceptions about food. Our nutritionist, friends and family members give us many types of healthy food tips and tricks. We believe in most of the advices and end up not eating the right foods. It is not necessary that all the food tips you have heard are true. To give you a clear idea, here is the truth about very common food myths:

Egg yolks are high in cholesterol and low in saturated fats. They were regarded as unhealthy for many years. The yolk contains dietary cholesterol which is not bad for health. An entire egg can be a part of a healthy diet.

According to one research, 25% of the cholesterol in our blood comes from food. Our liver produces other 75% cholesterol. Eggs contain unsaturated fat, folate, vitamin B and minerals. The egg yolk helps with weight loss. So throwing out a yolk is a food myth. Don’t fall in that trap anymore.

When you eat food with no fat, it is like running the car without oil. You should not avoid fat. Fat is one of the three kinds of food substances our bodies need. There are two types of fats: high-quality fats and low-quality fats.

Low-quality fats like butter, beef and vegetable oil should be avoided. High-quality fats include salmon, walnuts, and flax seeds. Remember, our body needs an adequate amount of dietary fat to support normal brain and body functions. They are useful for healthy hair, nails, and skin.

Many people believe that eating pasta will lead them to gain weight. The truth is pasta is not fattening.  Pasta is a low G.I. – (glycemic index) carbohydrate. It breaks down slowly in our body and doesn’t spike our blood sugar levels.

Make sure to use the right sauce with your pasta. You can choose tomato-based marinara. The creamy sauce will have fat. Pasta is an excellent source of carbohydrates. Some of the pasta contains extra vitamins, folic acid, iron, and minerals. Pasta is low sodium food that can fit right in weight loss plan.

4. You cannot get enough protein as a vegetarian

Don’t think that meat is the only source of protein. Let me tell you beans, grains, nuts, green leafy vegetables are a great source of protein. Don’t worry if you are vegetarian. There are plenty of sources to gain protein from the veg diet. You can start with peanut butter. Almonds, green peas, greek yogurt, and cottage cheese – all are full of protein.

5. Fresh vegetables are better than frozen vegetables

Frozen vegetables are just as nutritious as fresh vegetables. They are picked carefully. Therefore, most of their nutrient value is retained. Fresh vegetables lose some of its nutrients during the journey from farm to fork. In frozen food, food processors flesh-freeze their fresh-picked produce. 6. Coffee is dehydrating

Coffee promotes urine production but it is an extremely mild one. It has a water in it so it actually counts toward your daily fluid intake. Coffee is not bad for health if you take two or three cups daily. With this limited consumption, your fluid levels will be completely fine.

Coffee act as a diuretic because it increases the blood flow to the kidneys and inhibits the absorption of sodium.

7. Salads are the healthiest option

Salads may sound the healthiest option on the menu. But all the add-ons can make the sugar, fat, and calorie just as high as the mouthwatering burger. Don’t choose the salads with creamy, bottled dressings and cheese. Look for the salad with leafy greens.

Before you place the order, check out the ingredients and make sure your salad contains lots of vegetables, a lean protein source, and one or two healthy fats. You can make your own delicious salad at home. Oil-based salad helps you to absorb all the fat-soluble nutrients you’re eating.

8. Diet soda can make you thin

You will immediately say – “Diet soda has zero calories. How can it not make you thin?” Most of the diet soda makers were faking on for decades. Diet soda contains a mess of chemicals that mess up your metabolism and make you crave sugar. It is just about psychology.  People who are already overweight drink diet soda.

If you drink soda with lots of sugar and calories, you are going to put on more weight. Therefore, you might think about having a diet soda with zero calories. The truth is diet soda instruct your body to store fat. Instead, you can try the tea. Drink more water.
